Member of the Month - August 2020

July 15, 2020
Nick Rosiek, BC

My name is Nick Rosiek (pronounced Row-Zeke) and I live in British Columbia. Thank you so much for choosing me to be the Member of the Month, I’ve been a lodge member since 2013 and I’ve been watching every lodge meeting since, hoping to one day become the Member of the Month and now that day has come. I am very grateful and honoured to be chosen. The Red Green Show means so much to me, when I was little my grandfather used to watch me while my mother was at work. We would do so many things together each day, and one of those things was watch The Red Green Show which was my grandfathers favourite show. I remember we would watch this show and I would look at my grandfather and see him losing it with laughter, but I wouldn’t understand what was so funny, so I laughed along with him but I wasn’t laughing at the show I was laughing at him laughing at the show. For my entire childhood and into high school I would still spend time with my grandfather watching this show, and when time passed I began to understand some of the jokes on the show, so I would now be laughing with him instead of at him (although I would still laugh at him a lot). Well after all of those great memories, things took an unexpected turn and over the years my grandfather became quite sick. He sadly passed away in 2013, and I was beyond devastated. After he passed, I remember one day that I was flipping through the TV, and I stopped it on a certain show. That whole day was a marathon of episodes of the The Red Green Show and I watched every one. My mother, seeing how into the show I was getting, found out that Red was going on tour and that he was gonna stop through in Surrey BC. She instantly bought myself, my brother and her tickets to go, and we had an amazing time. This photo of Red and I was taken right after that show, and I have been a huge fan ever since. I have the whole series on DVD, and I’ve watched through it many times and it never gets boring, it continues to get more funny as I get older. I would not have gotten into this show if it wasn’t for my grandfather, and I thank him immensely for introducing me to it.

Thanks,
Nick
