Carrie McArthur - My Possum Pride!
I started watching the "Red Green Show" when I was in college on my public television station out of Madison, Wisconsin. I related to it immediately because I grew up in the southern part of rural Wisconsin where hunting, flannel and creatively making machines work by any means were normal. I appreciated Steve's and Rick's deep understandng of men, their reasoning (or lack of) and how women perceive their strange masculine ways.
After college, I lived in Northern Iowa, and met with more gentlemen that would feel completely at home in Possum Lodge. I have visited Minnesota and Northern Wisconsin on several vacations over the years and increased my knowledge of potential candidates for membership.
I discovered the show on Youtube when I was recovering from surgery this fall. I had forgotten how deliciously funny it was. And the show is now funnier than ever to me. I married in my 40's and I am now over 50. I knew Red was right about a lot of things when I was in my 20's. Now I know he is brilliant.
My husband asked me why I was watching the programs repeatedly and I explained there are so many depressing, depraved and disgusting programs on these days. I find Red's wisdom and wise cracks soothing and refreshing. I can trust Red and the Possum Lodge gang to make me laugh. I enjoy the hard left turns that Steve's humor takes especially during "Handyman Corner".
Thank you for providing a show that I can watch with my 7 year old grand daughter. She loves "Adventures with Bill". She informed me last week that I have caused her to be "addicted to duct tape" because I had introduced her to the show.
I was thrilled to discover that Possum Lodge is alive and well on the Internet. I proudly joined the Lodge last month. I loved adding my Possum Lodge Membership card to my wallet and have applied the patch to my favorite hoodie.
I love that Steve has continued to share his writing and acting talents by touring as Red.
In a world full of horror and cruelty, Possum Lodge and "The Red Green Show" provide a refreshingly silly, safe place.
Thank you for letting me express my "Possum Pride"!
