The Possum Van: A Quick and Dirty Guide

The Possum Van is more than just a vehicle on the Red Green Show. It's an iconic symbol of Canadian ingenuity and a testament to the show's DIY spirit. Here are a few quick facts about this beloved van:

Wait, It’s a Possum? Steve Smith, the show's creator, painted the van to look like a giant possum. Do you see it now?

A Budget-Friendly Creation:The van was originally a repossessed Dodge Ram, purchased by Steve Smith from his brother while creating the show on a shoestring budget.

A Canadian Icon: Beyond the show itself, the Possum Van has become a recognizable symbol of Canadian ingenuity and humor. It's often referenced in other media, from movies and TV shows to music and literature, cementing its place in the country's cultural landscape.

The Van’s Worst Enemy- Bill Smith: Damaging the Possum Van was a recurring gag on The Red Green Show. Bill Smith, in particular, was notorious for his mishaps during the ‘Adventures with Bill’ segments. Whether he was inadvertently knocking off the side mirrors, or ripping the doors off their hinges, the van was a frequent casualty of his humorous clumsiness.

End of the Road: Red Green once turned a retired Possum Van into an airboat, using the van doors as rudders. At the conclusion of the Red Green Show, the remaining Possum Vans were retired and scrapped.
