Ah, Ranger Gord. The quintessential Canadian park ranger, and a beloved character from the iconic Red Green Show.
During Season 13, The Red Green Show introduced a series of animated cartoon segments entirely created (and self-funded, naturally) by none other than Ranger Gord himself.
In these shorts, Ranger Gord reimagines himself as a muscular superhero, while Red and Harold are re-cast as a possum and a beaver. The episodes cover “educational” topics like wilderness navigation (“A Sign”) and Sasquatch defense (“Big Foot Defence”), but always veer off into self-glorifying absurdity. Even Possum Lodge regulars Dalton Humphrey and Mike Hamar show up — as a bear and a raccoon, of course.

Peter Keleghan masterfully brought the stoic and quietly humorous Ranger Gord to life in The Red Green Show. His portrayal of Ranger Gord is one of his most iconic roles. Born in Montreal, Keleghan is known for his dry wit and deadpan delivery — traits he brought to the laconic park ranger, but also in his memorable turns as Ben Bellow in 18 to Life, and Clark Claxton Sr. in Billable Hours. , and Made in Canada. Keleghan showcased his versatility with roles ranging from the sharp-tongued Alan Roy in Made in Canada to the news anchor Jim Walcott in The Newsroom, and more recently, the recurring role of the intriguing government agent Terrence Meyers in Murdoch Mysteries.
With a career spanning decades, Keleghan’s talent was recognized with the ACTRA Award of Excellence in 2009. And for Red Green fans, he’ll always be that slightly odd ranger with a radio, a sketchpad, and a lot of time on his hands.
Imagine a man deeply connected to the great outdoors… but maybe a little too connected. Ranger Gord lives alone in a fire tower, knows every trail and tree, and probably has long conversations with squirrels.
He’s usually dressed in a worn uniform, speaks rarely, and when he does, it’s dry, understated gold. His best punchlines? Often delivered in silence.
While Red and the gang get caught up in duct-taped disasters, Ranger Gord remains a steady (if slightly eccentric) presence. He’s the forest guardian, the lone voice of reason — and sometimes, pure chaos.

I am and have been in love with the Red Green Show for years.
And everyone involved in it.
From Red to Ranger Gord and everyone in between.
I was first introduced to the Red Green Show in 2009 after having a severe illness that called for immediate life saving surgery.
A huge part of my recovery time was spent watching the Red Green Show and Golf Tornaments.
Ironically I fell in love with golf at that time too.
I said all of that to say this.
Thank you each and everyone from the bottom of my heart for helping me travel up my road to recovery.
Though none of you were ever aware of any part you played in my overall mental and emotional health back then I am truly grateful.
Just hearing the phrases “keep your stick on the ice.” and “Remember, I’m pulling for you. We’re all in this together.”
Made me feel so not alone in my struggle.
